MacEwan Eats is always proud to offer students fresh, exciting meals through our food concepts Oven, Taste and Season. As the Fall 2018 semester begins, we are especially thrilled to announce that Explore India will continue its residency at Taste – our pop-up location dedicated to bringing local eats to campus.
“The addition of Explore India was an instant hit with students and staff at the university.,” says Susan Cooper, senior manager of Hospitality Services. “Due to their increasing popularity, they’ve decided to stay open until 6 p.m. this fall, so evening students can also enjoy their amazing food.”
Explore India owners – and local entrepreneurs – Manmeet and Janaya Singh, have been serving Indian Inspired cuisine in Edmonton from their acclaimed food truck since 2015. Part of its widespread appeal is due to its North Indian style. Manmeet says the spice level is mild compared to South Indian fare, so hungry customers won’t “burn their mouths off.”
The pair opened up their first brick and mortar location here on campus in 2017 and Manmeet says it’s been a privilege to share his home’s culture and cuisine with the campus community, especially our broad international student population
“I’m so grateful for every opportunity I get to help students feel a bit more at home during their first semester away from home,” says Manmeet, who immigrated to Canada by himself when he was 18.
Over the summer, Explore India introduced several new dishes, including a Fusion Curry Bowl. “It’s our non-traditional, but extremely delicious, version of a taco in a bowl. It was an instant bestseller, so I’m excited for MacEwan’s students, staff and faculty to try it,” says Manmeet.
Other menu items to watch for include their Sumptuous Street Samosas, creamy Coconut Curry Chicken and traditional Butter Chicken. You can try them all at Taste in Building 6 and visit MacEwanEats.ca to discover more great taste on campus.
