Have you ever wanted to grab an on-campus meal but didn’t want to lose your study spot? Enter StudentsEAT—a student-run startup that brings food to you—anywhere on campus.
StudentsEAT was founded by MacEwan School of Business students Ismail Khalil and Sagar Dasaur in January 2018. The response from MacEwan’s campus community was very positive. In just 55 business days, StudentsEat delivered more than 650 delivery orders. After trying the model on campus for most of 2018, they approached MacEwan Eats in the hopes of striking up a partnership.
We’ve since partnered with StudentsEAT as a pilot program, which means this semester you can order whatever you’re craving from on-campus and local eateries without getting up from your study spot! StudentsEAT’s menu includes a large selection of items from on-campus and local eateries including OVEN, Towers and SEASON.
A hungry campus community has been a crucial part of StudentsEAT’s growth and success but Ismail also attributes much of their progress to support from MacEwan—which he lovingly refers to as StudentsEAT headquarters.
“The help that MacEwan has given us to get us off the ground is so inspiring,” says Khalil, who has grown his team to more than 80 student delivery agents. In addition to MacEwan Eats’ support, the student startup has been encouraged by MacEwan’s Social Innovation Institute and Roundhouse, MacEwan’s social innovation coworking space, where they are now based.
Beyond serving the campus community food, StudentsEAT is also making a difference by creating job opportunities. The startup’s entire team is made up of MacEwan students.
“These students have created something significant,” says Susan Cooper, senior manager of Hospitality Services. “A business created by students, serving students, employing students and working with our food services team. It’s been so motivating to work with them these past few months.”
StudentsEAT delivery agents will be taking over campus this semester, delivering meals to busy faculty, staff and students from the School of Business to Allard Hall.
